Laure-Anne Jacobs studeerde Monumentale Kunsten aan de Sint-Lucas Academie in Gent. Ze nam deel aan talrijke tentoonstellings-projecten, vaak met een focus op geïntegreerde kunst. De opkomst van digitale media speelde een sleutelrol in de ontwikkeling van haar artistieke praktijk. Haar interpretatie van de realiteit krijgt uiteenlopende uitdrukkingsvormen, telkens afgestemd op de specifieke context. In haar werk combineert ze verschillende processen en technologieën, waaronder digitale prints, fotografisch beeldmateriaal, film, internet en experimentele nieuwe media.
Laure-Anne Jacobs onderzoekt de wisselwerking tussen audiovisuele en online media, en de impact van innovatieve communicatie-technologieën op de publieke ruimte — zowel fysiek als digitaal. De publieke ruimte en bredere maatschappelijke structuren bieden een ideale basis om in gesprek te gaan met de realiteit en verborgen processen aan het licht te brengen.
Sinds 2010 vormt ze samen met haar zus, sociale media-onderzoekster Bénédicte Jacobs, het kunstenaarsduo LarbitsSisters. In 2011 richtten zij het mediaplatform LarbitsLab op, waar kunst en wetenschap samenkomen in maatschappijkritische installaties, performances en onderzoeksprojecten.
Gaandeweg kwamen thema’s zoals energiegebruik, ecologische ongelijkheid en klimaat in hun werk centraal te staan. Deze urgente kwesties vragen om disruptieve visies en speculatieve oplossingen. In hun recente praktijk richtten de LarbitsSisters zich op ecologische kunst waarin klimatologische principes verweven worden met technologie. Aan de hand van computationeel design en biologische processen onderzoeken ze het morfogenetische potentieel van materialen, wat leidt tot een nieuwe, ruimtelijke praktijk waarin ecologie, technologie en vormgeving samenkomen.
Het werk van de LarbitsSisters werd gepresenteerd op diverse nationale en internationale tentoonstellingen, festivals en symposia. Ze ontvingen onder meer de Golden Nica (Ars Electronica) en de Nova New Media Interactive Art Prize.
