Euro Metropolitan Views – EMV

‘Euro Metropolitan Views’ is an extension of the art project ‘Dunkirk Views’. The project is build upon the idea of creating a city-portrait, starting from a subjective city-analysis, where audiovisual, personal documents and city-archives would be brought together. Using satellite-navigation and video, Larbitslab started some experiments about the relations between the individual, society, city-surroundings and image-building. These experiments moved fast to an image-building of the city starting from geolocalisation in stead of pure audiovisual data. In this system, the digital fixation of city routes – or digital tracks – with mobile phone is replacing the eye of the camera as the observation-platform. In this way, one creates possibilities for the daily or frequent routes of the individual citizen, including his daily travels in the city.

The collection of these different digital tracks creates new, alternative city-maps, on which a hidden or undiscovered organic city-pattern emerges. In this way, the geographical city-map gets a subjective frame which gives a meaning or a view on the city-fabric. The intention of this project is trying to elaborate the contemporary understanding of the city from an artistic view and to question these realities with the input of mobile applications.

MyMiniMaxiLoveLife

The project MyMiniMaxiLoveLife develops a search engine which in an original way design the lovelife of internet users and by doing so formulates an alternative for the rational design, software technology and the logic of relational platforms.

In view of conceiving a new search system, the research project explores how the interaction between medium, perception and human behaviour in social networks is taking shape, analysis thereby the borders of digital social processes.

With the tool the user is becoming gradually more aware of the subtle power and strength of search engines and the effects of digital networks on the complex issue of producing and experiencing relations in networked communities.

Scenes of Kortrijk – KT

The project Scenes of Kortrijk contains an interactive event, based on the exchange between reality and the virtual world. The key element of the whole event consists of fragments from the daily life of the Flemish city of Kortrijk. The event is build upon film and photography, but using software and assembling-techniques it gave the whole an extra and virtual dimension.

Digital Prints

2002 – 2009

The digital prints are experiments with digital image technology. The digital prints are reprocessed images, showing the benefits of the pursued digital working methods. Different themes are proposed: pollution, urbanization, the digitized society.

The photography of Laure-Anne Jacobs has developed from contacts with the reality and a personal interpretation of that content. In that way, her immediate surroundings and her observations of daily living form the inspiration for the artistic work, where the artist expresses her inner thoughts in digital techniques, starting from her local identity, herself and her surroundings. As a photograph journalist for digital media, she starts from certain events and facts to create the subject for the artistic work. Using digital techniques, the recording of the real-time event does become the content source for the creation of a project, which gives an artistic value to the original content.

‘Life Cycle’ is the fourth edition of a virtual exhibition series of the online art project Anina.be. The new exhibition presents the life cycle of people in digital imaging and sounds.

E.N.E.R.G.Y.

Brussels

Participating in the project E.N.E.R.G.Y., organised by the New International Cultural Center and the city of Brussels, Laure-Anne Jacobs designed a series of posters. A photo-reportage in Hotel Metropole and in a typical Brussels local pub brought up a selection of images, wich became the subject of the posters. These were put on bus shelters. Characters played some roles about different aspects of the activities of the daily life.

Wijk Up

Bruges
2002

In the neighbourhood of Sint-Jozef, an exhibition was put together as an event of Bruges 2002. Laure-Anne Jacobs participated with an installation, consisting of nine billboards with a carved out circle. This installation alongside the street, between the cycle-track and foothpath, shows pictures from the neighbourhood with the local people and their daily life. The installation was the entrance of the district, where people really were confronted with the impressions of life.

A group exhibition in the Soignes forest, where Laure-Anne Jacobs shows frames in red steel, attached to the trees. With this work – called ‘Cycle’ – the artist is referring to the cycles of man and nature. The impressive powers of nature confronting man and nature.
